General Function:

• Under the direction of the PPD and ETD staff, the work is expected to consist of the following:
• Assist in facility setup
• Prepare prototypes and develop final assembly procedures
• Prepare scintillator samples for light yield measurement. Measure samples using existing system and record data in excel.
• Assist in detector production
• Support operation of the extrusion line. Assist in both the running of the extrusion line and QC of the resultant parts.

Qualifications:

• We are interested in technicians who have at least 3-years’ experience with radiation detectors, including plastic scintillator detectors. Experience in the following desirable:
• Extruded scintillator or fiber scintillator detectors.
• Radiation detector assembly and test.
• Radiation detector readout and test
• Radiation detector system mechanical design and assembly

Expected deliverables:

• Report to the PI of END on activities and results from tests, measurements, and assembly.
• A candidate with work experience in one or more of these areas is desired:
• Profile extrusion, including line operation and die and sizer design fundamentals.
• Injection molding, including machine operation and mold design.
• Plastics testing and analysis.
• The individual should have basic skills in the use of computers.
